Peter M. King has a multi-faceted litigation practice. Peter’s practice is dedicated to representing parties in real estate disputes and representing employers in labor and employment matters. He devotes a large amount of his practice to real estate litigation matters, including the representation of title insurance companies and their insureds, and has represented title insurers throughout the country in state and federal court matters involving fraud, conspiracy, the Truth in Lending Act and RESPA. One of Peter’s recent successes occurred in the Northern District of Illinois, Shchekina v. Washington Mutual Bank, et al, 2012 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 3245957 (N.D. Ill. 2012). In a matter of first impression, the court sided with Peter’s client to permit subrogation to the priority position of the original purchase money mortgage.
In addition to his title insurance work, Peter represents a range of clients in commercial litigation and labor and employment matters. He has defended employers before the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as federal and state courts on actions involving wrongful termination, sexual harassment, age discrimination and employee benefits. Peter has litigated issues involving the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Illinois Trade Secrets Act, covenants not-to-compete and common law duties between employees and employers. He has also defended pension boards in administrative review actions and represented management in union contract negotiations as well as various municipalities and units of local government in employment actions, general liability and civil rights matters.
Peter is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and received his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School. He also served an externship with the Special Prosecutions Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago. Prior to founding King Holloway Lipinski LLC, Peter practiced in a large, nationwide law firm. Prior to practicing law, Mr. King was a pipefitter with Chicago Local 597. He is a member of the Illinois Land Title Association and the Defense Research Institute.
